Import a Custom MOF

Please follow these instructions to properly import a custom MOF class rule. It's easy.

Note: We will reference the MultifunctionAdapter sample MOF for this example.

Note: Custom imported MOF's are applied to the root\cimv2 namespace in WMI only.

1. Open the Rules Wizard from the Action Panel, select "New Inventory Rule".

2. On the wizard startup dialog select, "Import Custom MOF's" and click next.

3. Paste your MOF code into the text box.

Only include the data class portion of your MOF

Do not include any comments or comment lines

Do not include the #pragma namespace

Do not include the #pragma deleteclass

Do not include the reporting class MOF

4. Click the "Run MOFCOMP Check" button on the toolbar.

if the MOFCOMP was a Success you will be able to proceed.

5 Click Next - New Rule Details

7. REQUIRED: Rule Name - The WMI Rule Name will automatically be provided for you, you can change this, this will be a friendly name that you recognize the rule by.

8. REQUIRED: Class Name - The WMI class name will automatically be provided for you, you cannot change this.

9. Optional: Comment - Enter a comment for your rule, such as why, what, who, when.

10. Optional: Enable Rule - Check this to enable the rule for reporting immediately, leave unchecked to not report immediately. Click Next.

(note: you can leave this off and configure your rule later after you have submitted and applied the new rule by viewing the rule properties in the Inventory Manager rule list view of the console)

10. FINISH: You will now see the New Rule Finish dialog. The results of your new rule submission will begin to appear automatically in the results view. Once it shows Complete you can click Finish and the wizard will close.

11. Not quite finished - Once you click finish the properties dialog will appear automatically and you will be able to complete configuring your new rule, such as which property items to enable reporting for.

Great! you have just created a new custom inventory rule from a custom MOF file, you can now refresh the rules list in the console and view your new rule.

Remember - you may still need to modify the properties of the rule and or enable reporting for the rule to become active.

See Custom MOF Importer for more details about the interface.
